Notes and Reminders:
-Our field trip to see Rock and Roll Alice in Wonderland is this Thursday. Please have your child bring a lunch from home. We will eat in the classroom when we return to school. If you are interested in volunteering, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I still need two volunteers.
-April is boys’ month for snacks. Please send in some if you have not already. We are officially out of snack.
-Thank you to the many families that supported the book fair by purchasing books and volunteering. Thank you for all of your donations. We received some good books for the classroom library. Thank you to the book fair coordinator Jennifer Williams. She did an awesome job.
-We take a spelling test on the weekly sight words every other week. Please make sure that your child is practicing reading and spelling the words correctly.
-Please send in objects for our shape museum.
-Thursday is International Night. Please contact Sabine Charles if you are interested in helping out. See you there!
This week we will read Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna. We will focus on cause and effect and the strategy monitor/clarify. We will learn about the vowel digraph oo and review the CVC syllable pattern. We will continue working on non-fiction texts in writing. We have looked at several non-fiction books and identifies features on non-fiction books like labels, diagrams, headings and facts. We have done several pre-writing activities including brainstorming what we know a lot about and making a web of facts that connect to our topics. This week we will focus more on adding and organizing information. We will also proofread and edit several sentences focusing on capitulation and punctuation.
In math we will continue with unit 7. We will review what a polygon is and make shapes using straws and twist ties. We will identify several three dimensional shapes and play coin exchange and the attribute train game. In science we will observe two aquatic plants and build aquariums. In social studies we will make a family traditions book.
